RGB Assurance is an engineering consulting firm specialising in the provision of consultancy services, software development and training in the area of high-integrity, safety-critical systems. In particular, we specialise in complex, multi-technology systems comprising software and electronic hardware. The two directors of RGB Assurance - Dr Neil Robinson and Dr Alena Griffiths - collectively possess in excess of 40 years experience in the industry. They are recognised experts in the field and both have extensive experience in engineering practice, engineering management, software development and also in teaching and training.

RGB Assurance's quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015. Our staff include experts in systems assurance, systems engineering and software engineering, with postgraduate qualifications and extensive hands-on experience on major projects in the rail, defence and other industries.

Our Leadership Team

Neil

Dr. Neil Robinson, Director and Consultant

Dr. Neil Robinson is a Consultant and Director of RGB Assurance, offering engineering and management consultancy services in the area of safety-related and high integrity systems. Neil's experience consists of over 25 years in the area of safety-critical systems, including senior management roles with responsibility for assurance of System Safety, Verification and Validation, Occupational Health and Safety, Environment and Quality.

Neil's experience also includes system safety engineering, systems engineering, management and consultancy in system safety to clients in Defence, Rail, Oil and Gas, and other industries. Neil is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia, a Chartered Engineer, and holds a PhD and BSc(Hons).

Neil is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at The University of Queensland.

Alena

Dr. Alena Griffiths, Director and Consultant

Dr. Alena Griffiths is a Consultant and Director of RGB Assurance. Dr Griffiths has over 25 years experience in the field of systems assurance engineering and management in the Transport, Defence and Research sectors. She is a specialist in the area of system safety engineering (incorporating reliability, availability, maintainability as well as safety), in verification and validation (V&V), and has also worked extensively on software development programs for SIL 2 and SIL 4 railway applications. She has successfully managed the safety and V&V programs for several large rail control system projects, from inception to delivery of the final system safety report (safety case), and has been involved with many other projects of varying value. She has a detailed working knowledge of the CENELEC standards EN50126, EN50128 and EN50129, which are based on IEC 61508, and has also produced various work items to comply with other safety standards, including but not limited to Def(Aust) 5679, IEC 61508, the UK Railway's "Yellow Book", and MIL-STD-882C/D/E. She has published widely in the areas of systems assurance and high-integrity software engineering and is considered to be an expert in the field. She has also been retained as Independent Safety Assessor on many occasions.

In addition to possessing a real depth of technical expertise in the field, Dr Griffiths also possesses a keen appreciation of the technical and commercial risks inherent in safety-related systems engineering projects, particularly in a fixed-price contracting environment. She also has substantial line management experience, having managed large teams of technical staff on various occasions throughout her career. A hallmark of Alena's approach is to work with relevant stakeholders to develop solutions that satisfy the sometimes diverse goals of engineering acceptably safe solutions, within appropriate time-frames and feasible budgets.

Holger

Dr. Holger Becht, Principal Safety Consultant

Dr. Holger Becht is a career systems assurance professional with over 20 years post-graduation experience. During his extensive career he has performed the full range of systems assurance tasks, including focused technical studies using specialized analysis techniques, management of the systems assurance programs on large projects, and organizational management of other systems assurance managers and engineers for two leading Australian systems engineering housess

As President of the Australian Chapter of the System Safety Society, Dr Becht is a nationally- and internationally-recognized expert in the field of system safety and systems assurance. Complementing this prominent professional profile are solid academic credentials; he possesses a PhD in software engineering of high integrity systems and an impressive publication list. In addition to possessing the technical skills and rail domain knowledge needed to manage systems assurance on large rail project, Dr Becht also possesses excellent interpersonal skills, and presents credibly in executive management forums. His diplomacy, together with his ability to negotiate "best-fit" solutions which take account of a range of stakeholder expectations, make him well suited for high-profile, technical management roles.
